Trust me, I get asked this quite often. EDDM or (Every Door Direct Mail) is a program from the United States Post Office. As a USPS preferred vendor for over 12 years, we have seen many different types of postal discount programs, but by far EDDM is our favorite. It happens to be one of the most economical and fastest direct mail campaigns to launch.
This program offers a discounted postage rate of 18.3 cents per piece discounted from the regular postage of .50 cents. EDDM works well when you want to target your mailing to everybody that lives in a specific area (zip code or neighborhood). These types of campaign work best when you are targeting residential areas. They are ideal for grand openings, coupons, promoting a new service and overall great when you want to saturate a neighborhood. The post office does have the option to include businesses, but you need to bundle them with residential. So, for all you B2B businesses, targeted direct mail is still the best option for you.
While we’re here, lets clear up some misconceptions. The post office does NOT print, much less design postcards. Also, you cannot go to the post office and drop off your postcards without proper paperwork. The USPS is very resourceful however, there are size and weight requirements for your mail piece to qualify for EDDM. Apart from the size requirements, your mail pieces must be bundled in 50 or 100 stacks and must include face slips. This is so your local post office knows where they are going to be delivered. Last, but not least your mail pieces all must have the proper mailing indicia on all pieces. Just in case, here is a link to all USPS EDDM mailing requirements.
